The Sabbath (the 7th day) was sanctified (set apart) from
the six days of God's work in creation as a day of rest in which He would keep (sabbath) and celebrate His work
(Genesis 2:1-3)
God's earthly people with whom He would dwell (Matthew 1:23; Isaiah 7:14)
were to honor Him by keeping His Sabbath holy (set apart) as a day of rest from their labors (Exodus 20:8-11)
The Sabbath given to His people was broken at the outset
and its penalty was delayed in being enforced (Numbers 15:32-36 cf. Exodus 31:12-17)
God's earthly people were to respect their inheritance
from the Lord by observing the Sabbath of the Land (Leviticus 25:2-5)
The Lord's people violated the Sabbath of the Land and
were removed from the Land to Babylon for a period of years corresponding to the number of Sabbaths in which they
deprived the Land (II Chronicles 36:15-21)
The Lord tells of the glory of His Kingdom (Matthew 16:27-28)
and after six days (on the 7th day) - the Lord shows the glory of His Kingdom (Matthew 17:1-5)
On the 7th day (inclusive with the day that the Jews asked
Jesus, "Who art Thou") - "there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there"
(John 1:19,29,35,43; 2:1) - a type of "the marriage supper of the Lamb" (Revelation 19:9)
Concerning the glory of the Lord on Mount Sinai, "and
the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day He called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud" (Exodus 24:16)
