Farewell Salutations (II Timothy 4:19-22)

• Paul sends greetings to Prisca (Priscilla) and Aquila and Onesiphorous (II Timothy 4:19)
  • Paul stayed with Priscilla and Aquila in Corinth (Acts 18:1-3)
  • Paul took Priscilla and Aquila with him from Corinth to Syria (Acts 18:18)
  • It was Priscilla and Aquila who took Apollos (a man "mighty in the Scriptures") and "expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly" (Acts 18:24-26)
  • Paul referred to Priscilla and Aquila as his "helpers in Christ Jesus" who risked their lives for him (Romans 16:3-4)
  • Priscilla and Aquila offered the hospitality of their house to the Church (I Corinthians 16:19)
  • Onesiphorous refreshed Paul often while he was in prison not fearing the consequences (II Timothy 1:16)

• Paul cites Erastus as remaining at Corinth and Trophimus he had to leave sick at Miletum (II Timothy 4:20)
  • Erastus is associated with Timothy in ministering to Paul during his stay at Ephesus (Acts 19:22)
  • Erastus was the chamberlain or city administrator (Romans 16:23) of Corinth (II Timothy 4:20)
  • Trophimus is cited as an Asian companion of Paul (Acts 20:4) from the city of Ephesus (Acts 21:29)
  • The facts that Paul DID NOT HEAL Trophimus (II Timothy 4:20) and also OFFERED COMMON MEDICINAL ADVICE for Timothy's stomach ailment (I Timothy 5:23) are strong indications that the SIGN GIFTS HAD BEEN WITHDRAWN from the Church by the end of Paul's ministry (Acts 14:8-9; Acts 28:8-9 cp. II Corinthians 4:16-17; II Corinthians 12:7-10)

• Paul sends greetings from those brethren who are still with him - Eubulus, Pudens, Linus, Claudia (II Timothy 4:21)

• Paul's closing words to Timothy are true for each member of the Body of Christ:
  • "The Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit" (II Timothy 4:22 cf. I Corinthians 6:17; I Corinthians 12:13)
  • "Grace be with you" (II Timothy 4:22 cf. II Corinthians 8:9; II Corinthians 9:8)
