The commandment of God which ordained Paul as an apostle
had love as its objective (I Timothy 1:5) transformed Paul from an injurious persecutor to a faithful witness
(I Timothy 1:12-14)
In his salutation to pastors Timothy and Titus, Paul adds
"mercy" in addition to his traditional greeting of "grace and peace" to the churches (II Timothy 1:2; Titus 1:4)
Possibly this is in anticipation of the Lord's reward
to those who remained faithful to the apostle (II Timothy 1:16-18) when all others forsook him (II Timothy 1:15)
Paul's charge, "teach no
other doctrine" (I Timothy 1:3)
Paul warned the elders at Ephesus for three years with
tears that false teachers would arise from without and within the congregation (Acts 20:28-31)
Now that this prophecy had come to pass, Paul entreated
Timothy "to charge some that they teach NO OTHER doctrine" than what Paul had taught (II Timothy 2:1-2)
Paul's charge, "godly edifying
which is in faith" (I Timothy 1:4)
Paul admonished Timothy against fables (Titus 1:14)
and endless genealogies (Titus 3:9) - the ONLY significant pedigree is that of love, which COMES FROM
a pure heart, a good conscience, and true faith (I Timothy 1:5)
