Paul charged (commanded) Timothy to war a good warfare
by keeping the faith with a good conscience (I Timothy 1:18-19)
The warfare is NOT against physical foes, but against
spiritual ones and the battleground is the mind of the believer (II Corinthians 10:3-5)
Faithfulness is what God requires in His ministers who
are the stewards of His Word (I Corinthians 4:1-2) and faithfulness is what guarantees a good conscience before the Lord
(II Corinthians 4:1-2)
Paul encouraged Timothy by reminding him of the Divine
enabling, which was given him by prophecy and confirmed by the laying on of hands by the elders (I Timothy 1:18 cf. I Timothy 4:14)
Paul exhorts ALL believers to stand in the power of the
Lord's might to be able to withstand Satan and his hosts in this evil day (Ephesians 6:10-13)
Paul admonished Timothy to watch out for two individuals
at Ephesus who would shipwreck the faith of the church by having put away that faith themselves (I Timothy 1:19-20 cf. I Timothy 1:3)
At his departure from Ephesus, Paul told the elders of
the church that he faithfully shared ALL the counsel of God with them and that he expected them to do likewise
with their congregation (Acts 20:25-28)
He tearfully warned these same elders for three years
against those who would subvert the truth for personal gain - even individuals from their own ranks (Acts 20:29-31)
He commended them to the Word of God's grace for their
edification and reward (Acts 20:32)
He reminded them of his own personal example to them concerning
an honest ministry (Acts 20:33-35)
The error of Hymenaeus was the "spiritualizing"
of a physical resurrection (II Timothy 2:16-18) by the twisting of Paul's own God-given words (Ephesians 2:4-6)
Paul dedicates a whole chapter of an epistle to refute
this insidious error (I Corinthians 15):
The truth of the gospel demands the physical resurrection
of Christ (I Corinthians 15:12-18)
The consummation of God's redemptive purposes calls for
the physical resurrection of Christ followed by the physical resurrection of His saints (I Corinthians 15:20-28)
The church is to be encouraged by the hope of a secret
resurrection of its dead members and of a secret physical translation of its living members at the Lord's secret
appearing for the church (I Corinthians 15:50-58)
Early on in his ministry, Paul delivered rebellious individuals
to Satan for their physical destruction, so as to ensure their spiritual salvation in the Day of the Lord (I Timothy 1:20 cf. I Corinthians 5:3-5)
This was done so as NOT to jeopardize God's witness against
His gainsaying people - Israel (Romans 10:20-21 cf. Isaiah 65:1-2) who were being cast away until the fulness of the Gentiles be completed
(Romans 11:11-12,15,25-27)
