Paul desired to see Timothy soon (I Timothy 3:14),
but did not know at the time when the Lord would deliver him from his first prison sentence of Nero (II Timothy 4:16-18)
Paul wrote this epistle to Timothy in the event that the
Lord would cause him to tarry in prison (I Timothy 3:15 cf. Philippians 1:12-13)
This epistle was written to instruct Timothy on how to
conduct himself in the House of God, which is the Church of the Living God - the Pillar (support) and Ground (foundation)
of the Truth (I Timothy 3:15 cf. Ephesians 2:19-22)
