Paul exhorted Timothy not to rebuke (sharply reprove)
an older man, but to gently entreat him as one would a father (I Timothy 5:1)
This would particularly apply to elders (older men) who
have proven to be faithful in the communication of the Scriptures to the congregation (I Timothy 5:17-19)
Note the case of Rehoboam who forsook the counsel of the
elders and listened to the counsel of youth and lost most of his kingdom !! (I Kings 12:1-17)
Paul exhorted Timothy to remember that the younger men
are also brethren (I Timothy 5:1) who need to be admonished NOT with strife, BUT with meekness so as
to allow the Lord to restore a brother who has been taken captive by the enemy (II Timothy 2:24-26)
