WHY the Gospel?

• The Universality of Sin and Guilt (3:19-20)
  • The LAW given to Israel ESTABLISHES the GUILT of the whole world and LEAVES ALL DEFENSELESS (3:19):
    • The RIGHTEOUSNESS of the LAW is based upon a MAN'S WORKS (MAN'S DOING), according to Moses (10:5 cf. Leviticus 18:5)
    • As many as are UNDER the WORKS of the LAW are UNDER its CURSE (Galatians 3:10 cf. Deuteronomy 27:26), i.e. UNDER its CONDEMNATION (Deuteronomy 31:26)
    • The WORKS of the NATIONS prior to Israel's progenitor (Abraham) were the SAME AS those of ABRAHAM'S NATION (Psalms 14:3; Isaiah 64:6)
  • NO FLESH will be JUSTIFIED BY the WORKS OF the LAW, because BY the LAW is the KNOWLEDGE OF SIN (3:20):
    • The KNOWLEDGE (Greek, EPIGNOSIS) is a FULL ACCURATE RECOGNITION of the POWER OF SIN (7:7-8 cf. I Corinthians 15:55-56)
    • "SIN BY THE COMMANDMENT BECAME EXCEEDINGLY SINFUL" and was in TOTAL CONTROL, i.e. "SOLD OUT" to it (7:13-14)
    • "FLESH and BLOOD" (I Corinthians 15:50), i.e. "BONDAGE of CORRUPTION" (8:21)
      • "The LIFE of the FLESH" (Leviticus 17:11), i.e. the LIFE of "SINFUL FLESH" (8:3)
      • "The LAW of SIN ... in MY MEMBERS" (7:23)
      • "The BODY of this DEATH" (7:24)
    • "FLESH and BONES", i.e. NO BLOOD
      • ADAM BEFORE FALL (Genesis 2:23)
      • CHRIST BEFORE CROSS (I John 5:6 cf. John 1:13; John 19:28-35; Hebrews 2:14)
      • CHRIST AFTER RESURRECTION (Luke 24:39)
        • "the CHURCH, which is HIS BODY" (Ephesians 1:22-23) - "MEMBERS of HIS BODY, of HIS FLESH, and of HIS BONES" (Ephesians 5:30), i.e. TRANSFORMED BODIES (FROM HUMILIATION TO GLORY); (Philippians 3:21)
