Signified Israel's need - "The have NO wine"
(John 2:3)
The Jews' efforts at purification, symbolized by the washpots
(John 2:6 cf. Isaiah 1:22), were ALL in vain (Isaiah 1:13)
ONLY Messiah could multiply Israel's exultation and joy
(Isaiah 9:2-3) in His kingdom glory (Isaiah 9:6-7); signified by providing wine filled to the brim (John 2:7-9),
thereby, manifesting His glory (John 2:11)
The ruler's son was "at the point of death"
(John 4:47) just as Israel was at the beginning of the Lord's earthly ministry
The Samaritans believed His Word (John 4:40-41),
while His own countrymen (the Galileans) received Him only for what He did (John 4:44)
Jesus stayed two days in Samaria before returning to Galilee
(John 4:40,43) - a type of Israel being separated from her Shepherd between His cross
and resurrection (Matthew 26:31-32 cf. Zechariah 13:7)
Israel was to be separated from her Shepherd for two days
and raised to live in His sight on the third day (Hosea 6:1-2)
Israel's hope for life is in her Messiah Who has been
given to have life in Himself (John 5:26-27) as illustrated by the ruler seeking the Life-Giver for his son (John 4:46-47)
The impotent man had a long abiding infirmity of 38 years
(John 5:5-6) just as Israel was made to wander in the wilderness for 38 years due
to the sin of unbelief (Deuteronomy 2:14 cp.Numbers 14:33-35)
Jerusalem was guilty of the sin of unbelief (John 5:38-40)
Messiah will one day open a fountain to Jerusalem for
sin and uncleanness (Zechariah 13:1) like unto the pool where He healed the impotent man (John 5:7-9)
The sign was performed near Jerusalem (John 11:18)
The man was blind from birth (John 9:1) as were the Pharisees (John 9:40-41) and Israel as a nation had not changed since Moses' day (Deuteronomy 31:27)
Messiah will one day regather Israel and cleanse the nation
with the sprinkling of clean water (Ezekiel 36:24-25) just as He spit on the blind man and told him to wash in the pool
of Siloam to regain his sight (John 9:6-7)
Violation of the Sabbath (rest) day (John 9:14,16)
was the accusation made against the Rest-Giver (Hebrews 4:3-9) Who promised it in "the world to come" (Hebrews 2:3-5)
Sign#4: The Feeding of the Five Thousand (John 6:1-14)
The sign was performed near the Passover (John 6:4),
which was Israel's feast of redemption (Exodus 12:11-14)
The manna Moses gave Israel in the wilderness was NOT
the true bread as they ALL died (John 6:32,49) just as the meat (loaves and fishes) with which Christ fed the multitudes
ALSO perishes (John 6:11-13,26-27)
It's Messiah Who is the True Bread which satisfies (John 6:35,51)
and is the True Passover Lamb of Redemption (John 1:29)
Just as Messiah ascended the mountain to watch over His
disciples (John 6:15-17), so He ascended into the heavens as Israel's High Priest from where
He is ready to help (Hebrews 4:14,16)
Just as Messiah suddenly appeared to rescue His disciples
from the stormy sea and guide them quickly to the safety of land (John 6:18-21), so He shall appear suddenly to deliver Israel from the Great Tribulation
and quickly gather them to the safety of their land (Matthew 24:21-22,29-31 cf. Revelation 22:7,12,20)
