Enoch, the “seventh from Adam” (Jude 14),
walked apart (Genesis 5:24) from the ungodly (Jude 15-16) just as God set apart the “seventh day” of rest apart from the six
days of His creation work (Genesis 2:2-3)
Enoch's prophecy of God's coming
judgment
There is NO witness of faith FROM Abel to Enoch
Seth replaced Abel as the righteous seed (Genesis 4:25)
Adam’s grandson (Seth’s son) was Enos (“weak, incurable”)
and in his days men began to call upon themselves by the name of Jehovah (Genesis 4:26)
Note the “EL” suffix in Cain’s descendants – Mehujael
and Methusael (Genesis 4:17-18)
Note the “EL” suffix in Enos’ grandson’s name – Mahalaleel
(Genesis 5:9-12)
FROM Enos’ generation on, men became sold out to Satan’s
lie, ”ye shall be as gods” (Genesis 3:5)
Mahalaleel’s grandson, Enoch (“teaching”), taught his
ancestral line to come back and “walk with God” (Genesis 5:15-18,22-24)
Israel’s book of worship, Leviticus – which means “and
Jehovah called” (Leviticus 11:1), defines every office of service from the High Priest down to the
hewers of wood and drawers of water
There was NO room for the office of prophet until the
failure of the priests in their responsibility to communicate the knowledge of God to the people (Malachi 2:4-9 cf. Nehemiah 8:1-12)
The VERY fact that Enoch prophesied - revealed man’s departure
from God as already indicated by the Divine commentary beginning with the days of Enos (Genesis 4:26)
God reveals His secrets to the prophets (Amos 3:7),
those who walk with Him (Amos 3:3)
It was NO secret that God would come in grace to redeem
man (Genesis 3:15) as typified by Abel’s sacrifice (Genesis 4:4)
God revealed by His spirit to Enoch the words of his prophecy
(II Peter 1:20-21), the secret that God would come in wrath to judge man (Jude 14,15)
God's witness of Enoch's faith
God’s witness of Enoch was that he pleased Him (Hebrews 11:5)
Enoch was accepted by God via the sacrifice of atonement
as was Abel (Genesis 4:4) and just as we are accepted by God in His beloved Son (Ephesians 1:6)
Enoch was well-pleasing to God by his faith (Hebrews 11:5)
just as we are in our “walk by faith” (II Corinthians 5:7-9) and “looking for that Blessed Hope” (Titus 2:13)
Enoch came to God in worship as Abel did (Genesis 4:4),
for they both believed “He is” (Hebrews 11:6)
Enoch additionally believed that “God becomes” a Rewarder
of them that diligently seek Him out (Hebrews 11:6)
Enoch believed God’s promise to him that as a reward for
“walking with Him” during His rejection in exile, he will be translated (removed) from this earth BEFORE He comes
to the earth in judgment (Genesis 5:24)
Just as God visibly witnessed by “fire from heaven” (Psalms 20:3)
as to Abel being righteous, so He visibly testified as to Enoch being well-pleasing to Him
