and sell it for a "mess of pottage" (Genesis 25:29-34)
Rebekah schemes to get Jacob the blessing that Isaac had

However, the blessing Jacob received is NOT the blessing
he and his mother expected to hear - it is the blessing, which was Esau's right by birth and he could NOT get it
back AFTER he sold it (Hebrews 12:16-17 cf. Genesis 27:34-38)
This blessing contained NO multiplied seed and NO land
of inheritance (Genesis 27:27-29)
The words "fatness of the earth" and "plenty
of corn and wine" must have rung in Jacob's ears when he sent his sons to "buy corn in Egypt" (Genesis 42:1-3)
Blessing Esau concerning things
to come, according to the obedience of faith(Genesis 27:39-40)
Isaac realizes the deception perpetrated on him and "trembled
very exceedingly" (Genesis 27:30-33)
This "great trembling" was God's reminder to
Isaac of what He said before his sons were born (Genesis 25:21-23) and, so faith starts to operate, "yea, and he shall be blessed"
(Genesis 27:33)
By faith Isaac blessed Esau according to the Word of God
concerning things to come, "the elder shall serve the younger" (Romans 9:10-12 cf. Genesis 25:21-23)
It was only when Judah followed apostate Israel's example
that the Lord caused Edom to break "his brother's yoke from off his neck" (II Kings 8:16-22 cf. Genesis 27:40)
BlessingJacob concerning things to come, according to the
obedience of faith(Genesis 28:1-4)
By faith Isaac blessed Jacob according to the Word of
God concerning things to come, "Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated" (Romans 9:13 cf. Malachi 1:1-3)
This was the "covenant blessing" for which Rebekah
and Jacob plotted in vain to hear - by faith "Isaac called Jacob and blessed him" (Genesis 28:1)
Here is the "multiplied seed" and the "land
of the inheritance" (Genesis 28:3-4)
