Daniel was a type of Christ: "For Judah prevailed
above His brethren, and of him came the Chief Ruler; but the birthright was Joseph's" (I Chronicles 5:2)
Daniel's adversaries - their jealousy and plot (Daniel 6:4-9)
Daniel's adversaries lay a trap for him by pitting
the "law of His God" against the "law of the Medes and the Persians" (Daniel 6:5-9), just as Christ's adversaries
tried to tempt Him by pitting the "law of Moses" against the "law of Caesar" (Luke 20:19-26)
Daniel's adversaries - their accusation (Daniel 6:11-15)
Daniel is accused by his adversaries of breaking the
king's decree "which altereth not" (Daniel 6:12)
Darius "set his heart on Daniel to deliver him"
(Daniel 6:14), but to no avail, because "no decree ... the king established
may be changed" (Daniel 6:15)
When Pilate "sought to release Him", the
Jews, like the Babylonian nobles, insisted on the law of man - "if thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's
friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar" (John 19:12)
Daniel is cast into the den of lions with a "stone
sealed on its mouth" (Daniel 6:16-17), just as Christ was placed in the tomb with a "great stone rolled
to its door" (Matthew 27:59-60)
Daniel was "not hurt" for God "shut
the lions' mouths" (Daniel 6:22), just as Christ could not be "held" by the "pains of
death" (Acts 2:24) for "this Jesus hath God raised up" (Acts 2:32)
Some of Israel's faithful Tribulation remnant will
be preserved by God from the wrath of the devil (Revelation 12:12-16 cf. I Peter 5:8)
Daniel's adversaries - their judgment (Daniel 6:24)
Daniel's adversaries and their families were cast into
the den of lions and were consumed, just as the Beast and his worshippers will be cast into the lake of fire and
will be consumed (Revelation 14:9-11; Revelation 19:20)
Darius makes a decree for all his people to acknowledge
the sovereignty of Daniel's God ("tremble and fear") , just as all nations will be compelled to worship
Israel's King in Jerusalem (Zechariah 14:16-19), because they will know that "God is with the Jews" (Zechariah 8:22-23)
Daniel "prospered" in the "reign of
Darius", just as "to him that overcometh will I grant to sit with Me in My Throne" (Revelation 3:21) - "they lived and
reigned with Christ a thousand years" (Revelation 20:4)
