The woman acknowledged God's prophet and His Word (I Kings 17:24)
The widow of Zarephath stood out as a rebuke to rebellious
Israel in Elijah's day (Luke 4:24-26) as did the Roman centurion in the Lord's day (Matthew 8:8-13)
Women Received their Dead Raised to Life Again(Hebrews 11:35)
- Elisha and the Shunammite woman (II Kings 4:8-37)
The Shunammite woman showed hospitality (bread and
lodging) to Elisha, "the man of God" (II Kings 4:8-11)
Elisha responded in kind and sought to intercede for
her in the land (Israel), but she was a Gentile who "dwelt among her own people" (II Kings 4:12-13)
She is a picture of the Gentile "sheep nations"
who are rewarded for their kindness to the Lord's brethren in their time of need (Matthew 25:32-40)
The Shunammite woman was granted the miraculous conception
and birth of a child via her "old" husband (II Kings 4:14-17)
The child died when he reached maturity and his mother
laid him on the bed of "the man of God" (II Kings 4:18-21) and sought help from "the man of God" (II Kings 4:22-27)
She is a picture of the nations in the Millenium who
will seek the Lord through Israel (Zechariah 8:22-23)
Elisha went to where the child lay and interceded before
the Lord on the woman's behalf (II Kings 4:28-33)
Elisha is a picture of Israel in the Millenium as the
priests who will intercede before the Lord on behalf of the nations (Isaiah 61:6)
Elisha raised the woman's son from the dead through
the power of God and the woman responded in the worship of Elisha's God (II Kings 4:34-37)
As these Gentile women had to lose their children to
find them again, so will Israel's faithful Tribulation remnant have to lose their lives to find them again (Matthew 16:24-27)
